About the project

The Amelia, formerly known as the Tunbridge Wells Cultural & Learning Hub, is a £13.2 million redevelopment project that brings together cultural, educational, and community services within a single, modernised facility. A collaboration between Tunbridge Wells Borough Council (TWBC) and Kent County Council (KCC), the project integrates the museum, art gallery, library, adult education, tourist information, and citizen services, supported by Arts Council England and The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The consultancy's role

Alix Slater Consultancy & Training was appointed as the Evaluation Consultant, responsible for tracking progress throughout the Development and Delivery Phases. This included designing evaluation methodologies, establishing baseline data, and assessing the impact of service integration, volunteering, and community engagement. Four interim reports were produced to measure progress against key objectives, drawing on visitor feedback, digital analytics, and consultation with stakeholders. The final summative report consolidated these findings, evaluating the project's long-term outcomes and legacy.

The project has successfully transformed The Amelia into a cultural hub, with new galleries, modern visitor facilities, and an expanded public programme. Integrating heritage, learning, and public services has increased accessibility, strengthened community engagement, and provided a sustainable model for the future.
