About the project

The Korean British Cultural Exchange is an organisation promoting Korean culture and heritage in the United Kingdom. Its Kimjang Project, supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund through the Our Heritage programme, celebrated kimjang - the communal tradition of preparing and sharing kimchi that marks the turn of the year in Korean households.

The project centred on New Malden, home to the largest Korean community in Europe, and culminated in a community Kimjang festival there in November 2019.

The consultancy's role

Alix Slater Consultancy & Training was appointed as Mentor to the Trustees of the Korean British Cultural Exchange, supporting them through the delivery of their Our Heritage project and the community festival that concluded it.

A significant part of the role was organisational development. The consultancy worked with the Trustees to build the capacity the organisation needed to deliver every element of the project, strengthening the organisation itself alongside the project in front of it.
