About the project

All Saints' Church in Edmonton is a parish church in north London. Urgent repair works to the building were supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, and a business plan was needed to sit alongside them - one that set out how the church could generate income and sustain itself once the works were complete.

The brief deliberately looked beyond the church building itself, and the plan had to test what the wider site could realistically contribute.

The consultancy's role

Alix Slater Consultancy & Training was commissioned to write the business plan, drafting sections spanning governance, operations and activities from background information and online research. The work was deliberately practical: every income idea was tested against who would actually manage it and what local competition already existed.

The consultancy assessed the income potential of the church's wider site and set out a range of options for its future use. Alix Slater Consultancy & Training carried out the research behind these options, drawing on demographic analysis of the local catchment and testing demand with potential users.

The consultancy also engaged the congregation, establishing what they valued about the church and their hopes for its future. Those findings informed the plan's assessment of need and demand, and shaped the services it went on to propose.
