About the project

The South London Botanical Institute in Tulse Hill is a charity that has promoted the study and enjoyment of botany since 1910, and holds a botanical garden, herbarium and library on its site. Its Botanical Education: Thriving and Sustainable project - known as BEST - was concerned with putting the Institute's botanical education work on a surer long-term footing.

The consultancy's role

Alix Slater Consultancy & Training was appointed as Mentor to the project in 2019, working alongside the Institute as it delivered BEST.

Mentoring is a role the consultancy takes on regularly for funded heritage projects. Rather than delivering the work itself, the consultancy supports an organisation's own trustees and staff to deliver it, building the capacity and confidence that stay with the organisation after the project closes.
