Dr. Alix Slater has worked in heritage and museums for over thirty years, specialising in audience development, visitor studies, evaluation and learning.
She holds a Doctorate in Professional Studies, an MA in Museum Management, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Heritage Interpretation and a PGCE in primary education.
Alix has worked as a heritage, museum and arts consultant, primary school teacher and university lecturer. For the past decade she has sat on the Heritage Fund's RoSS consultant register, supporting and monitoring more than 40 projects, and has helped clients secure over £60m in funding.
Alix began her career at the National Museum of Wales, volunteering in the Education Department before moving into marketing. Two summer internships at the Royal Ontario Museum, working with the interpretation team on visitor studies, led to a lasting interest in audiences and their behaviour. She then joined an international consultancy, working further in visitor studies, evaluation and audience development. While lecturing, she worked with museums and heritage sites on research that informed published papers on audience development, season tickets and membership.
